I have just got home from the most brilliant week at Jubilee Lodge. It was my first time there and my first time at any kind of respite. I was really nervous when I arrived as I didn’t know what to expect.
As soon as I arrived, everyone made me feel so very welcome and introduced me to the other guests, nursing staff, carers and volunteers. They were so kind, caring and just let me take my time to settle. It didn’t take long, I felt really safe and happy.
It felt really strange at first because I haven’t had anyone else care for me other than my mum or friend since I came out of hospital. I now live at home with my mum who does everything for me. I needed to come away on a Revitalise break to start a new journey in my life, where I let other people look after me. It was a massive act of trust and also acceptance. And I wanted my mum to have a well deserved break too.
Within a few days at Jubilee Lodge it all just felt right! I cannot thank everyone enough for what they have done for me.
“It was a huge step for me to do this. I knew it was time to get help and support.”
It was an amazing break and I did so much shopping and chatting and even did lots of karaoke singing! The other guests were lovely and I have made lots of new friends. I loved all the trips out and the activities like ceramic painting. I have laughed a lot this week and also found out really useful life tips from other guests. Every single person there – drivers, catering staff, volunteers, care staff, nursing staff and reception – were so friendly I felt like I’ve known them for years. I totally switched off from normal life, I felt really sad to leave.
I want to say “thank you for a brilliant break, but also for helping me to take this next huge step in my life”. It was difficult but I felt happy and safe and so grateful to everyone at Revitalise for taking me through it gently and with fun.
