Premiership footballer ran 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon in support of Revitalise and Prostate Cancer UK.
Kenny Brown, former West Ham United defender and current Head of Coaching at Millwall Football Club, took on the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday 22 April for charity.
Kenny completed the 26.2 mile challenge across the capital in support of Revitalise -a national charity providing respite holidays for disabled people and carers at its three accessible respite holiday centres in Chigwell in Essex, Southampton and Southport – and Prostate Cancer UK.
Speaking of his reasons for choosing to support Revitalise as one of his charities at this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon, Kenny commented:
“It has been a privilege to work with the people at Revitalise and generate much-needed funds and awareness for such a great charity. I was uninformed and uneducated regarding the hours and stresses involved in the caring of loved ones and what they have to commit to.
“If the small funding I have generated can make a difference to just one person then it has all been worthwhile. Creating awareness of the total commitment and selflessness required of the carers is so important.
“The London Marathon was a great opportunity to build up funding for Revitalise and my very first, so one I was really looking forward to. The day itself was an unbelievable occasion, the hottest on record and one I will never forget.
“All the training did not prepare me though for the gruelling 26 miles ahead. So after 5 hours 29 minutes I crept over the finish line and into a hot bath, a beer and my bed!
“What an experience and one which will stay with me forever…”
The iconic London Marathon, first established in 1981, was Kenny’s first ever Marathon experience.
A total of 33 runners took on the challenge as part of Team Revitalise, tackling the 26.2 mile route across the capital, all with the motivation to help to continue providing respite holidays for disabled people and their carers across the UK!
Revitalise Events Manager Kavita Mehta commented:
“I am so proud and thankful to Team Revitalise for all their hard work and commitment at this year’s London Marathon for Revitalise. Especially as it was the hottest on record! Months of training and preparation saw them cross the finish line and I’m so happy for them all.
“It is thanks to the dedication and support of our amazing Team Revitalise runners that we can continue providing respite holidays for disabled people and carers, enabling them to enjoy relaxing and rejuvenating breaks with our charity. Thank you all!”
