The importance of respite for carers

Two-thirds of UK adults can expect to become an unpaid carer during their lifetime. The UK alone has 6.5 million carers who support loved ones that are disabled, elderly or very ill.

Each year we provide thousands of much-needed breaks for disabled people and carers. We understand the importance of caring for a loved one, and with it the vital need for a proper break. Respite breaks are essential to preserving and renewing relationships between carers and their loved ones.

Why choose Revitalise

Our breaks are designed to provide a revitalising holiday experience in a hospitality setting for disabled adults and their carers. We give carers the opportunity to hand over the caring role and switch off. Carers can choose to join their loved one at our centres or enjoy their own break elsewhere. Either way, safe in the knowledge that their loved one is in good hands.

Stories from Revitalise carers

“I could cry now thinking about it. As soon as I come home (from Revitalise) I put the countdown on to the next break. It’s such an amazing break. A whole week without any responsibility.”

– Jean, who cares for her husband John who has dementia

“I haven’t got any worries whenever he’s there. He needs a break from me and I need a break from him. It doesn’t mean to say that we don’t love each other and miss each other because we do, but a break is good.”

– Tina, who cares for her son Aaron

“The only time I get a little break is when [my daughter] gets to go on respite, she hasn’t been for a long time. I need someone to care for me too. Carers are ignored. There is no one there to listen to us.”
