Here at Revitalise Towers, our fundraising events can take many weird and wonderful forms, but who would have thought that an evening of conversation would be such a runaway success?
It is if it’s organised by our energetic, tenacious Friends of Jubilee Lodge and the conversationalists in question are the charismatic John Bly and Andy McConnell from BBC TV’s hugely popular Antiques Roadshow!
The event took place just round the corner from Jubilee Lodge at Chigwell School on Saturday 18 April and was billed as ‘Bly & Bonkers’, the ‘Bonkers’ part referring of course to the irrepressible Andy McConnell, who, quite coincidentally, is the son of Anne McConnell, stalwart of the Friends Group.
A full house of around 180 enraptured people enjoyed wine and canapes before being treated to an evening of reminiscences and anecdotes from Andy and John, who also fielded questions from the audience. The event even made the local media!
‘Bly & Bonkers’ raised an absolutely outstanding £2,700 for Jubilee Lodge. I asked Ros Dover of the Friends of Jubilee Lodge what she thought. She told me:
“What a wonderful evening. Andy and John were hugely entertaining and had the audience completely captivated. Best of all, through ticket sales and a raffle we raised over £2,700 for Jubilee Lodge, which does such amazing work supporting disabled people and carers from the region.”
Couldn’t have put it better myself. Keep up the good work, Friends!
