Meet Sian Essam
Our tenth story of Christmas is from another wonderful volunteer who discovered Revitalise through the Prince’s Trust.
Roll back a couple of days and you may remember our fifth story of Christmas with volunteer Charlie! Like Charlie, Sian volunteered with us back in February through the Prince’s Trust, following in her sisters footsteps who previously volunteered with us in 2012. Sian had also spent time volunteering for the Northamptonshire Country Centre during her 12-week programme, a day centre that provides people with learning disabilities an opportunity to gain valuable life skills, and continues to regularly volunteer there.
In February, Sian couldn’t find the words to sum up what her volunteer experience had been like at Jubilee Lodge,
“I can’t describe what it’s like (volunteering at Revitalise), but I would say it’s necessary for everyone to volunteer at places like Revitalise; to see the world differently.”
Sian also expressed that volunteering with us confirmed that she wanted to pursue a career in caring, so we were delighted that on her return she told us she would be donating more of her time at Jubilee Lodge in the future, learning to become a level 2 care support volunteer.
“It’s so nice to come back and volunteer at Revitalise. I spend all my time with the guests and love that I had met some of them during my first stay, so to see them again was lovely.
“I’m so pleased that I can come back to Jubilee lodge and complete my level two volunteering which will help me towards a career in caring.”
We love that volunteering at Revitalise has given Sian the experience and passion to go pursue a career in caring. We value our volunteers so much and it makes us feel so good to know that they get as much out of the experience as our guests do.
