It’s the season for shopping! Whether you’re getting organised for Christmas and are looking for that special something for a loved one, or you fancy a post-Christmas spree in the sales, we give you an insider’s guide on our favourite places to shop in the North-West.
1. Trafford Centre & Manchester City Centre
A hub of shopping in the capital city of the north, Manchester’s Trafford Centre is the perfect place to get your hands on some bargains in the January Sales. The Centre also has beautiful architecture and lavish interior design, making it a truly unique place to visit. Browse some of your favourite shops before dining in the cruise ship themed Orient food hall. And if you’re looking to shop ‘till you drop, Manchester City Centre is just a short drive away and offers even more shops. Try Afflecks for that quirky person in your life, or if you’re a Friends fan, have a coffee in Central Perk, inside one of the UK’s largest Primark stores.
2. Liverpool One
A stone’s throw away from Royal Albert Dock, The Beatles Story and the world-famous Superlambanana, this shopping centres mix of high-street to high end means there is nothing you can’t purchase at Liverpool One. Set across four intersecting streets, you’ll find everything from the LEGO store to John Lewis. Don’t miss the Beauty Bazaar, Harvey Nichols – the only one in the UK. Spread across three floors, this is the place to go for beauty and fragrance. You can even treat yourself to pampering at the Hair Lounge, Brow or Nail Bar!
3. Southport Central
Steeped in history and more laid-back than its neighbouring Blackpool, Southport was home to Napoleon III before he became French Emperor and used the town’s Lord Street as inspiration for the redesign of Paris. Lord Street is a beautiful canopied boulevard surrounded by scenic gardens and green spaces. And if you need a break from shopping and exploring, you can enjoy cream tea in one of the town’s traditional tearooms.
Shop beneath the sun or stars in Leeds Trinity with its iconic glass roof. You can find a plethora of high-street brands like Next, H&M and M&S as well as sumptuous restaurants. Alternatively, visit Victoria Leeds, the self-named “glamorous heart of Leeds city centre and one of the country’s most beautiful shopping destinations” for high-end fashion and frolicking.
5. The Great Northern Markets
From Bolton market town to Birkenhead market, it could easily be argued that the north has better markets than anywhere else in the country. At one of the many great northern markets which we visit from Sandpipers, you can get your hands on everything from fresh farm produce and fresh-cut flowers to home furnishings and jewellery.
Trips to Manchester, Liverpool, Southport, Leeds, Bolton and Birkenhead are available weekly from Sandpipers. You can also enjoy our shopping themed break, January Sales on 20 January 2020 from Sandpipers.
