This month we celebrate Giving Tuesday. For many of us, the festive season is a time for giving and sharing and we would like to take a moment to share how in choosing to give to our charity, you’ll be making a real difference to the lives of the disabled people and carers that we support.
As a charity we know that spending time with the people we love and care for is something so simple, but can mean so much to disabled people and carers who have little opportunity of a break. Imagine not being able to take time away when it is needed the most. While for many of us the prospect of not spending time with our loved ones is unthinkable, for many of the disabled people and carers that we support it is a reality. That’s why we want to give as many of our guests as we can the gift of time to spend together this Christmas.
Our 2018 Christmas Appeal features the story of Revitalise guests Lin and Steve. Lin and Steve waited a long time to find one another and after getting married they looked forward to a long and happy life together. When Steve suddenly had a stroke, life changed for them in ways they never could have imagined. Lin became Steve’s full-time carer and does everything she can to fight for Steve – to help with his recovery and to make sure that he gets all the care and support he needs.
At the time when Lin and Steve first came to Revitalise for a break they were both exhausted. Spending time with our charity alleviated the pressures which come from giving and receiving care, meaning that they could spend quality time together as husband and wife once more. As Lin explained:
“Revitalise is outstanding; you get treated as an individual. It is like a bubble when you are there – faces light up, a weight is lifted, and it is a bit of paradise. Without Revitalise there would be nowhere for disabled people and carers to go.”
It is for people like Lin and Steve that Revitalise exists. With your generosity and support we can ensure that we are there for our guests when they need us the most, not just today, but everyday.
And, giving a gift doesn’t just have to mean supporting our Christmas Appeal, you can support us by giving your time too. We are blessed with the largest residential volunteering programme of any UK charity and are lucky to have the support of thousands of incredible volunteers who generously give their time every year, even over the festive holiday to ensure that our guests have the most memorable experience while possible with us.
In celebration of Giving Tuesday this month, why not pledge to give something special to our charity this festive season?
However you wish to support us, you’ll be helping to make a real difference to the lives of the disabled people and carers that we support and for that we couldn’t be more thankful.
